Bruno from Niessen

Bruno Alexander Ernst von Niessen (born March 5, 1902 in Wiesbaden ; † January 5, 1981 in Bonn ) was a German musician , director and opera director .

Life

Bruno von Niessen was born to the doctor Max von Niessen and his wife Elwine. After attending a grammar school in Wiesbaden, he studied music theory at the Academy for Music in Munich with Joseph Haas in 1922 . This was followed by private lessons with Elly Ney (piano) and Hugo Grüters (music theory) in Bonn and with Franz Mannstädt in Wiesbaden. He gained his first theater experience from 1924 to 1926 as a répétiteur and assistant director at the Dresden State Opera and from 1926 to 1933 as a dramaturge and director at the Hanover City Theaters . He then worked from 1933 to 1937 as a director in Berlin at the Städtische Oper , the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Volksoper . From 1937 he took over directorship at the Pfalzoper Kaiserslautern and the Gautheater Saarpfalz in Saarbrücken .

From 1930 guest productions took him to opera houses in Amsterdam , Paris , Helsinki and Dublin, among others .

During the time of the Third Reich , from 1935 on, he also held the position of opera advisor to the Reich Theater Chamber .

In 1955 he was appointed general director of the Munster Municipal Theaters . However, he had to give up this post in 1957 due to illness.
