The Buchmann Galerie is a gallery for international contemporary art with locations in Switzerland and Germany .

history

The gallery was founded in 1975 by Elena and Felix Buchmann in St. Gallen / Switzerland. From 1983 to 1998 the gallery was located in Basel next to the Museum of Contemporary Art and today has two rooms in Agra / Lugano and Lugano .

André Buchmann founded the Buchmann Galerie in Germany in 1995 with the first location in Cologne . Since 2005 the gallery has been in Berlin with two exhibition rooms in a central location on Charlottenstrasse between Checkpoint Charlie and Gendarmenmarkt . André Buchmann has also been a member of the board of trustees of the Cragg Foundation Wuppertal since 2008.

Artist

The Buchmann Galerie represents international emerging and established artists who work primarily in the media of sculpture , painting , video and photography . Among others, the following artists are represented:

The gallery has accompanied most of the artists from the very beginning. The collaboration with Tony Cragg has existed since 1983, with Wolfgang Laib since 1987, with Fiona Rae since 2000, with Tatsuo Miyajima since 1994, with Bettina Pousttchi since 2005, with Lawrence Carroll since 1994, with Daniel Buren since 1989. Buchmann has represented since 2013 Gallery the estate of Martin Disler.

The artists represented have exhibitions in institutions around the world and take part in major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale , Documenta Kassel, Carnegie International Pittsburg or Prospect in New Orleans. They received important art prizes, including the most important prize, the Praemium Imperiale . It has already gone to three of the gallery's artists: Daniel Buren (2007), Tony Cragg (2007), Wolfgang Laib (2015).
