Buckhorn Lake is a lake in the Canadian province of Ontario .
It is on the area of the townships Galway-Cavendish and Harvey and Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield in Peterborough County . Buckhorn Lake belongs to the Kawartha Lakes group of lakes . Buckhorn Lake has a total area of 31.19 km² and a maximum depth of 14.3 m.
The main tributary of Buckhorn Lake is the Gannon Narrows from Pigeon Lake to the west . Another tributary is the Harrington Narrows , which connect the lake with Lake Chemong to the southeast . All three lakes form a lake system because they represent a coherent body of water. Another tributary is Sandy Creek , which drains Sandy Lake to the north . The lake is divided into several bays, including Harrington Bay and Sandy Creek Bay .
A dam and lock 31 of the Trent-Severn waterway are in the northeast of the lake at Buckhorn , which is part of the Galway-Cavendish and Harvey township. These control the flow of the lake to the lower and northeastern Lower Buckhorn Lake .
The name of the lake - "Buckhorn Lake" - literally means "Hirschhorn Lake".
Lakefront settlements include Buckhorn, the Curve Lake First Nation , Gannon Village, Gannon Beach, Kawartha Hideaway, Kimberley Park, Oak Orchard, and Young's Cove.
The following types of fish are caught in Buckhorn Lake: eyeglasses , largemouth bass , black bass , muscle lung , crappie and sunfish .
