Buddy protection (actually Adolph protection , * 23. November 1914 , † 24. February 2007 ) was an American jazz - drummer of the swing era and photographer .

Schutz, who worked as a professional musician from 1934, first worked in various bands, such as the California Ramblers , with whom the first recordings were made, and also with Charlie Barnet , Frank Froeba and Vincent Lopez , before he worked in Benny Goodman's orchestra in 1938 . From 1939 to 1944 he played with Jimmy Dorsey ; Due to his skill and popularity, he worked as an endorser for the Ludwig drum company . After the end of the big band era, he led his own band in Los Angeles. In 1952 he was a member of Artie Shaw's Gramercy Five and worked on their recordings with Connee Boswell . In the field of jazz he was involved in 147 recording sessions between 1937 and 1952. He also worked as a photographer and made portraits of film actors and musicians. His photo collection has been kept in the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University in Newark since 2007 .
