Purpose of protection, hazards and measures

Rock formations

The area was placed under protection in order to protect the red sandstone cliffs with the adjacent forest and small heather areas "as a valuable, typical landscape element of the Rureifel ". The preservation of the valley area as a connecting biotope between the Rurtal and the Voreifel is particularly valuable .

The State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUV) sees the following threats to the area: leisure activities, off-road sports, water development, rubbish dumps, indigenous or indigenous trees, damage to vegetation and backfilling of the landscape. In order to counteract these dangers, leisure activities should be restricted, water bodies, landscape structures and hardwood trees should be preserved, the proportion of hardwood should be increased and extensive grassland management should take place. The LANUV also advises avoiding road construction measures and managing bodies of water and forests in a natural way. Management should be avoided.
