Üsenberg Castle

The castle Üsenberg is an Outbound hilltop castle on the 188  m above sea level. NN high Üsenberg near the town of Breisach am Rhein in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built by the Lords of Üsenberg in the 11th century and is considered to be their ancestral castle. Due to its location immediately north of the up-and-coming city of Breisach, the residents had to regard it as a latent threat. The news of their destruction is unclear and contradicting. It is said to have been destroyed by the citizens of Breisach in the 1240s . As a replacement, the Üsenbergers received the Höhingen Castle near Achkarren . In 1291, Üsenberg Castle is known as the Burgstall . In 1320 the Üsenbergers also sold the area on which the castle once stood to the Breisach family.

Nothing has been preserved from the former castle complex.
