- 1241 : Mongols invade Europe.
- 1242 : Alexander Newski (Newskij) defeats the Teutonic Order on the frozen Lake Peipus ( Battle of Lake Peipus ) and prevents the catholization of Russia .
- 1244 : The Cathar fortress of Montségur surrenders to the troops of the French king and the Roman Catholic Church, 225 survivors are burned at the stake.
- 1248 : Sixth crusade under Louis IX.
