Bischoffingen Castle

The castle Bischoffingen is the remains of a castle in the village street 5 on the southern edge of the district Bischoffingen the city vogtsburg in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg . It is around 225  m above sea level. NHN .

In the years 1083 to 1087 a Hermann von Bischoffingen is named, other gentlemen from Bischoffingen follow. The first mention of the castle ("veste") dates back to 1393, at which time the knight Hans Meinwart von Tottikofen held the fiefdom given by Walraf von Tierstein . Reinold VI succeeds the Lords of Tottikofen . von Urslingen as a feudal man. Its heirs are the gentlemen von Geroldseck . In 1568, Bischoffingen Castle is mentioned as the "old castle stable". After structural changes, the facility was used as a tithe barn and trot . In 1924 the moat was filled in.

The former approximately 30 by 30 meter square castle complex shows remnants of medieval buildings made of humpback blocks with a height of up to 4 meters in the southwest corner, which are now built into a residential building. The facility is privately owned.
