Klingenstein Castle originally consisted of three castle complexes. The upper castle , built in the 11th and 12th centuries, consisted of a keep , castle courtyard, castle chapel , main building, neck moat , outer bailey and drawbridge . The foundation walls of the keep are still preserved. The middle castle was built in the 13th and 14th centuries and delimited the grounds to the south with a battlement and consisted of a main building with a basement, the so-called gatehouse , and a shell tower that is still well preserved today .
