The Burgau-Gymnasium is a school founded in 1969 in the south of the city of Düren . The foundation stone for the current building was laid on April 16, 1975.

On May 5, 1969, the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia approved the establishment of a new language grammar school for boys and girls in development (since February 17, 1972: Burgau grammar school), decided by the city council on December 12, 1968. School started after the summer holidays with four sixths in the green belt school before moving into the new building on Karl-Arnold-Straße.

The grammar school offers bilingual education in French and German, with several non-lingual subjects being taught in French (e.g. history, geography, politics). The Burgau grammar school is one of five grammar schools with a German-French branch in North Rhine-Westphalia . The work is supported by the French embassy. For learning the bilingual subjects, French-language materials in the form of books, magazines, reference works, CDs, etc. are made available in a documentation and information center (center de documentation et d'information, CDI).

The bilingual AbiBac Abitur enables you to study directly at French universities. As a rule, no further entrance examination is required because there is a recognition agreement between Germany and France . The degree to be obtained here is also interesting if you wish to study in France later.

The Burgau-Gymnasium conducts student exchanges with French, Polish (until 2006), Ukrainian and US schools. Numerous working groups are offered after school and a. a school newspaper blog , a triathlon club and a badminton program.

A functional building in self-supporting post construction in the architecture of the 1970s serves as the school building . The school has extensive sports facilities on the premises. These are e.g. B. a rubber soccer field or the volleyball court in front of the gym. Outside the school grounds, the Burgau Forest is visited for running and the Jesuitenhof swimming pool for swimming. In addition, the Burgau Gymnasium has had a cafeteria since 2008.

The headmaster of the Burgau-Gymnasium is Arno Schneider, the deputy headmaster Oliver Heidbüchel.

The gymnasium is since 2009 a "Certi Lingua-school" and since 2010 " European School ".

In 2019, the Burgau Gymnasium hosted the 8th Franco-German Youth Congress, a meeting of all bilingual French schools in Germany and their partner schools.

For example, the VdFF (Association of Friends and Sponsors) supports school trips, study trips or the like with grants. This means that it is possible to get to know each other in 5th grade, ski in 7th grade (until 2015, 8th grade) and a farewell run in Q2.
