Life

Burghardt Vossen was the fourth child of Burghard Johann Vossen (1860–1936) and his wife Josephine Scheuven (1882–1951). His parents came from Düsseldorf and Aachen and ran a grain distillery. At the age of 16, Burghardt Vossen first took his master distiller exam.

During a trip to England, he noticed the widespread toweling products there, which at that time were by no means as accessible in Germany because they were too expensive. In Gütersloh, East Westphalia , he founded a weaving mill with initially six employees, including his sister Karoline , which began operations on May 6, 1925. His business idea was to turn the luxury fabric of the time into terry cloth that was affordable for everyone. The company was successful and grew rapidly. In 1936, 400 employees were already working around the clock in three shifts. The factories were located on Neuenkirchener Strasse in the Gütersloh district of Kattenstroth . In the 1980s, the company had around 3,500 employees at its peak.

In 1951, Burghardt Vossen invented the toweling house and bathrobe . Further expansion followed with the establishment of branch plants at other locations, including Warburg in Westphalia and Jennersdorf in Burgenland, Austria .

His marriage to Mrs. Carla had three children. The financial entrepreneur and film producer Felix Vossen is his grandson.
