Fohnsdorf castle ruins

The Fohnsdorf castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle north of Fohnsdorf in the municipality of Fohnsdorf in the Murtal district in Styria . The remains of the wall are under monument protection .

history

The castle was probably built in the 9th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1252. After its destruction in 1292, it was rebuilt in 1309. In 1479 the castle came into the possession of the Hungarians , later it belonged to the Archdiocese of Salzburg until 1805 .

architecture

The castle stood on a steeply sloping foothill of the Frohndorfer mountain. Remnants of the walls of the keep and the palace still exist.
