The probably oldest church in the area was mentioned in a document in 1147. The nave walls and the tower choir square are Romanesque. The nave has a Gothic vault and to the east of the choir square there is a Gothic choir and to the north the Gothic sacristy.

The Pernthalerhof dominates the main square. It was built in the 17th century, expanded in 1844 (the year is on the skylight of the entrance door) and re-faced around 1910 with a secessionist plaster and decorative structure. A remarkable fireplace from 1844 on the first floor.

Lignite mining in Fohnsdorf was stopped in 1978. The headframe above the former Wodzicki shaft was built in 1887 and enlarged in 1925. In addition, part of the machine hall with one of the largest hoisting machines in Europe, a twin tandem steam engine built in 1923, has been preserved.

The castle stood on a steeply sloping foothill of the Frohndorfer mountain. Remnants of the walls of the keep and the palace still exist.
