Burgstall Kosenburg

The Burgstall Kosenburg (also known as Chosenpurkch ) is an abandoned hilltop castle in the cadastral community Lettental of the city of Grein in the Perg district of Upper Austria near the Mayrhofer farm (so-called Burgstallerhäusel ).

location

The Kosenburg location is at the end of the Machland or at the entrance to the Strudengau . At this bottleneck of the Danube , as well as from the Kollmitzberg opposite, the ship traffic could be well monitored. Later, Werfenstein Castle , located further downstream, and Greinburg Castle from 1490 took over this task.

history

This high medieval castle complex probably belonged to the family Lettner zu Saxen . Later the property belonging to it was divided and part of it came to the Gneuss family via the Saxenegger . In 1383 Hanns der Knewzzer (Hans Kneusser) von Saxenegg gave his burgrave Ruger Harsser (Rudolf der Harscher) the tithe of 23 houses near the Khosenburkch in Saechsner Pfarr for his loyal service . Rudolf der Harscher died in 1405, his widow and their son Georg sold the tithe rights to 31 houses near the Kosenburg on April 20, 1405 to Mr. Alber von Volkersdorf auf Kreuzen . The castle is likely to have been abandoned in the second half of the 15th century, as there are no other documents.

Kosenburg today

The still clearly recognizable substructure of the Kosenburg is located above the steep drop to the Danube , about 350 meters southeast of the Mayerhofer farm in Dornach; the shield wall with a trench and some wall sections are still preserved. The site has been changed due to construction activity and the expansion of the B3; Agricultural renovation work has also affected the complex. There is no monument protection for the facility.
