The Burke River is a river in the southwest of the Australian state of Queensland . It does not have water all year round.

geography

River course

The river has its source on the eastern slopes of the Standish Ranges north of Boulia and south of Mount Isa . It flows south through Boulia. There it turns its course to the southwest and flows northeast of the Simpson Desert into the Georgina River .

Origin of name

The Burke River was named in memory of Robert O'Hara Burke of the Burke and Wills expedition .
