Burning Inside was an American brutal and technical death metal band from Springfield , Missouri , that was formed in 1995 and split up around 2007. The band was later based in Orlando , Florida .
history
The band was formed in Missouri in the winter of 1995 by guitarist Steve Childers and drummer Richard Christy after they left Public Assassin . Jamie Prim joined the band as singer and bassist, after which the trio recorded their first self-titled demo . As a further guitarist Michael Estes came in early 1996, after which the band relocated to Florida. Florida-born Estes had previously played with Prim in another band. Since Prim could not move to Florida for the time being, he was temporarily replaced by John Leighton. At that time, Pulverizer Records announced his interest in the band. Since Leighton could not prove themselves, Childers and Christy recorded an album with the support of Marcus Matthew Kolar and Andrew Jay Harris of Sarcophagus , but it was never released. In 1997, Prim finally moved to Florida. Performances followed and new material was written. In 1998 the band appeared on the sampler A Tribute to Hell "Satanic Rites" by Full Moon Productions . In the same year, the group also contributed their version of Mercyful Fates Evil to the sampler The Unholy Sounds of the Demon Bells - A Tribute to Mercyful Fate . The Burning Inside musicians were fans of Mercyful Fate and had been made aware of this planned sampler by the group Equinox . The sound carrier was released on the Polish label Still Dead Productions . The band was then offered a recording contract with this label, which in 1999 released the debut album The Eve of the Entities . The sound carrier was re-released on Halloween of the following year via Pavement Music . In 2001 the second album followed with Apparition via Crash Music . In 2007 a self-titled EP was released . Then the band broke up. On February 2, 2016, Steve Childers died in a car accident.
style
According to Eleanor Ditzel from Allmusic , Burning Inside was one of the few death metal bands that had developed a really high technical skill. The Eve of the Entities has been described by some critics as one of the best death metal albums. The album is brutal and technically demanding, with the lyrics dealing with dark topics such as psychological problems or the persecution of witches , in which millions of Christians have been killed. Apparition is also technically demanding, with a "melodic love of blood and brutality" being audible. Since the group has recorded cover versions of bands such as Black Sabbath , Judas Priest and Mercyful Fate in their career , it is evident that the group can be both traditional and technically demanding. Frank Stöver from Rock Hard wrote in his review of The Eve of the Entities that "the complexity of newer Death albums is mixed with the intensity of Morbid Angel and the wickedness of Deicide ". Despite the high level of brutality, the game is technically at a high level. One issue later, Steve Childers stated in an interview with Stöver that the group was influenced by early 1990s death metal as well as 1980s metal , Yngwie Malmsteen and European power metal . He himself describes the music of Burning Inside as dark and technical metal. Since you try to process the influences of all musicians in the songwriting , you spend a lot of time on the arrangements . In addition to the typical themes of Death Metal such as Satan , Horror and Gore , things such as occultism , psychology and stories based on horror films are included in the lyrics. Most of the lyrics would be written by Prim and Christy. Aaron McKay of chroniclesofchaos.com also reviewed the album and summarized it as technical speed and death metal. The music doesn't manage to convince, however. He described the singing as dry, although it does not fit into the overall picture, as it sounds as if Chuck Billy would take over the singing of Incantation .
