The Burnt River is a river in the Canadian province of Ontario .
It has its origin in Miskwabi Lake in the township of Highlands East in Haliburton County . From there it flows south to the Kawartha Lakes region. Eventually it flows into Cameron Lake in the City of Kawartha Lakes . It is therefore an important supplier of water for the Trent-Severn waterway , which runs through the Kawartha Lakes. The place Burnt River is near the mouth of the Burnt River.
The Burnt River was previously used to raft the logs felled in the catchment area to the sawmills located downstream. The Victoria Railway was later built along the river. The route of this former railway line is now used as a hiking trail.
The river owes its name ("Burnt" is the English word for "burned") to a forest fire in the region, which gave the Burnt River an unusual color.
fauna
The three most important food fish in the river include eyeglasses , muscle lung and black bass . The fish do not reach the size of their conspecifics in the nearby lakes. However, they can be caught legally according to local laws. The black bass can also be caught by fly fishing .
