The Busdorfer Teich (also Busdorfer Damm ; Danish Bustrupdam , partly also Bustrup Sø ) is a lake located between the Schleswig district of Friedrichsberg and Busdorf . The still water has an area of 14.6  hectares (0.146 km²). The Busdorf pond was originally a branch ( Noor ) of the Schlei .

history

With the construction of a railway embankment for the Neumünster – Flensburg line around 1857, the western part of the lake was tied up and has now partially silted up. The Hintere Busdorf pond , separated from the main lake , still has an area of around 4 hectares.

In 1594, Duke Johann Adolf had the Gottorf watermill, which was previously located on the Busdorf pond, moved closer to Gottorf Castle. For the operation of the mill building, which still exists today, the Mühlenbach (also Oehrbach ) had to be created, which led from the Busdorf pond over about 1440 meters through Friedrichsberg to the mill pond and from there into the Schlei. However, the mill pond was filled in around 1900, the mill stream is now partially piped. Otherwise, the lake drained further south via the measles meadows and the Otterkuhle into the Schlei. After the Otterkuhle was filled in as a result of the construction of Bundesstrasse 76 in the 20th century, drainage also takes place underground here.

In the immediate vicinity of the lake, acts of war between German and Danish troops took place during the First and Second Schleswig Wars . More than 500 Danish and German soldiers from the First Schleswig War, who died in the fighting between August 1850 and February 1851, are buried on the northern shore of the lake. Today there are several German and Danish monuments here. A memorial with an attached cannon and a plaque commemorates the German soldiers. This is located in the former Busdorfer Schanze, from which King Christian IX. observed the advancing German troops in February 1864. A six meter high Danish obelisk made of red granite is reminiscent of the Danish soldiers .
