Arthur Stewart "Butch" Paul (born September 11, 1943 in Rocky Mountain House , Alberta ; † March 25, 1966 in Memphis , Tennessee , USA ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played three games in the course of his active career between 1961 and 1966 for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . Mainly, however, Paul, who died of a traffic accident at the age of 23, played in the Central Professional Hockey League .
Career
Paul enjoyed a successful junior career with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Central Alberta Hockey League between 1961 and 1964 . With the team he won the Memorial Cup in 1963 and was crowned the best junior team in Canada. At the end of his junior years, the striker made his debut in the Central Professional Hockey League with the Cincinnati Wings in the spring of 1964 .
At the beginning of the 1964/65 season, Paul was in the squad of the Charlotte Checkers from the Eastern Hockey League and was also active in parallel for the Pittsburgh Hornets from the American Hockey League . He also came in the course of the season to three missions with the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League . For the game year 1965/66 , the attacker moved to the Central Professional Hockey League, where he went on hunt for goals for the Memphis Wings .
On March 25, 1966 - just before the end of the regular season - Paul was involved in a traffic accident on the way home after a game with his team in Memphis . He died a little later at the age of 23 from his injuries sustained from the force of the impact.
