Butylselenomercaptan is an organic chemical compound of selenium and the selenium analogue of butanol .
Extraction and presentation
Butyl selenomercaptan can be obtained by reacting sodium hydrogen selenide solution with butyl chloride or bromide .
properties
Butyl selenomercaptan is a very bad smelling liquid. The smell is reminiscent of a combination of rotting cabbage, garlic, onions, burnt toast and digester gas. Like almost all thiols and selenols , butylselenol reacts as a very weak acid .
