Cübbeli Ahmet Hoca

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü (born February 27, 1965 in Çarşamba in Fatih ) is an Islamic preacher in Turkey with the surname ( lakap ) Cübbeli Ahmet Hoca (in German "teacher Ahmet with robe"). He is one of the leading members of the Istanbul İsmail-Ağa community and is seen as the successor to the community leader Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu . The epithet indicates a long robe-like garment, as worn by members of the Ünlüs community. The parents were called Yusuf and Rabia Ünlü.

The community belongs to the Nakşibendi order .

Life

The Ünlü parents had three children, two girls and a boy. Ahmet was given the nickname Cübbeli in his childhood. He attended elementary school and then middle school in Fatih Koleji . However, he left middle school after the first year of school. Instead, he attended the Quran courses of the İsmail Ağa community. Ahmet gave his first sermon in the Yavuz Selim Mosque . Dissatisfied with the speed and intensity of the lessons, Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu gave him permission to continue his training in Rize , where he stayed for two years. Ünlü received his license to teach as a hodja and returned to Istanbul, where he achieved the level of Hafız . His sohbets contributed to the fact that his name became known among the Tarika circles despite his youth . Shortly before his military service he was diagnosed with diabetes and Ahmet Ünlü was retired. In 1992 Ünlü established the Fatih Hak ve Hizmet Vakfı Foundation . Land in Fatih was purchased and in 1993 the construction of Fatih Külliyesi began , albeit without a building permit. In 1997 Ünlü developed a lively preaching activity at home and abroad. He made money recording and selling his sermons on cassettes. In the same year he came into contact with the police for the first time. The reason was a sermon in İzmit entitled The Enemies of Ashab , Sunna and Sharia . Also in 1997, Ünlü first came into the spotlight of the press. The occasion was the very ambitious construction of the Külliye without a building permit. The bad press lowered the willingness to donate and further construction was questionable. The Ministry of Interior dispatched inspectors. There were several searches by the Jandarma .

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü became known through recordings that showed him on a jet ski and swimming in - by his own standards - sinful surroundings on the beach.

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü runs an Islamic-religious Internet television station and is known for many recordings on Internet platforms, so-called conversations ( sohbet ). In the Turkish public he is considered a stimulating figure because of his appearance and his sermons.

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü wears a full beard, a turban and a long robe. His views are anti-modern. In a sermon after the earthquake in Gölcük on August 17, 1999, which caused more than 17,000 deaths, Ünlü stated that this earthquake was commanded by God. This wanted to hit the den of vice, the usurers, the prostitution and the adulterers. He declared the dead Muslims to be martyred. God wanted martyrs, so Muslims should have died. This speech, which was distributed on cassettes, led to a court case in which Ünlü was sentenced to a little more than 2.5 years in prison for sedition under Article 312 of the Turkish Penal Code (old version ). On February 1, 2000, a sermon was played on the show Arena hosted by Uğur Dündar , in which it became clear that the aim of the earthquake sermon was to sell cassettes.

Ünlü says he has two wives and eight children.
