CFB Edmonton , also known as Edmonton Garrison or "Steele Barracks", is a Canadian armed forces base located near Edmonton , Alberta , Canada .
history
The airfield began its operations at the end of the First World War and was significantly involved in the development of the northern regions of the country. During the Second World War , the airfield was used by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as an education and training center under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. There was an Elementary Flying Training School and the Air Observers School on the base. Another training facility, the Initial Training School, was located at the University of Alberta .
The two runways were closed in 1994.
