Cyne (pronounced " sign ", acronym for " C ultivating Y our N ew E xperience ") is one of Gainesville , Florida native alternative hip hop group. It consists of the rappers Akin (Akin Yai) and Cise Star (Clyde Graham) as well as the producers Speck (Michael Gersten) and Enoch (David Newell). Their music has a wide variety of influences from neo soul to trip-hop to traditional African music . The content of Akins and Cise Star's metaphorical texts are often politically and socially critical , and also pan-African and religiously shaped by their respective origins .

The two MCs met in high school after Akin and his parents moved to Gainesville from Benin, Africa . Together they founded the group Phalanx and in 2001 they made the acquaintance of the producers Speck and Enoch, who had been working together since 1997. Together they released several single records and in 2003, Time Being, their debut album. After their second work Evolution Fight , they performed at music festivals and tours with The Roots , KRS-One , El-P and Talib Kweli, among others . Cise Star and Akin also appeared on Nujabes ' 2005 album Modal Soul . After a free EP , CYNE released two more albums in 2008. Pretty Dark Things was more experimental than its predecessor and, in addition to strong electronic influences and samples, also contained live orchestrated pieces. In contrast to its predecessors, however, it received mixed reviews.
