Cacho Island ( English ; Bulgarian остров Качо ostrow Katscho ) is a rocky, in northwest-southeast orientation 750 m long, 350 m wide and 19 hectare large island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 5 km south-southwest of the northeast foothills of President Head , 12.4 km northeast of Cape Conway and 30.3 km northwest of Deception Island immediately off the east coast of Snow Island before the entrance to Ivaylo Cove . It is separated from the Hall Peninsula by a 60 m wide strait .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2020. It is named after the Spanish physicist, polar researcher and author Javier Cacho Gómez (* 1952), head of the Spanish Juan Carlos I station on Livingston Island from 1986 to 1987 for his support for the Bulgarian Antarctic Program during this time.
