Cadillac is a city in Wexford County in the state of Michigan . The city is the seat of the county administration.
location
The city is located on Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac , which are connected by an artificial canal. The canal freezes over in front of the lakes, but thaws when they freeze over. The city is approximately 100 miles north of Grand Rapids and 49 miles southeast of Traverse City .

In 2000 Cadillac itself had about 10,000 inhabitants, 65,000 people live in the metropolitan area.
economy
In addition to tourism, Cadillac has boatyards, a rubber industry, an iron foundry , vacuum cleaners , car spare parts, refrigerators and military goods are produced. In addition, the distribution of beverages is of economic importance. The unemployment rate in 2000 was 6.4%.
history
The place was created because of the possibility of extracting pine wood . It was originally known as Clam Lake . When the village was recognized as a city in 1877, the place changed its name to Cadillac in honor of the French adventurer Antoine De La Mothe Cadillac . After World War II , tourism became a major source of income in Cadillac. Before that, the city was known for making maple and hardwood floors.
