Cadmium tetrafluoroborate is an inorganic chemical compound of boron from the group of tetrafluoroborates . It is commercially available as a 50% solution.

Extraction and presentation

Cadmium tetrafluoroborate can be obtained by reacting tetrafluoroboric acid with cadmium , cadmium carbonate or cadmium oxide .

properties

Cadmium tetrafluoroborate is a hygroscopic, colorless and odorless salt that is very soluble in water and ethanol. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system in the space group Pbca (space group no. 61) with the lattice parameters a = 9.1271, b = 8.746 and c = 13.225 Å and eight formula units in the unit cell . Cd [BF 4 ] 2 forms hydrates with 2, 3 or 6 water molecules. All hydrates are solid salts. Template: room group / 61

use

Cadmium tetrafluoroborate is used to make electroplating baths for high-strength steels, where normal cyanide baths lead to problems with hydrogen embrittlement .
