Callcott was married to the travel writer and botanist Maria Callcott . He died in Kensington on November 25, 1844.
reception
Callcott's landscapes include many Italian, English, Belgian, and German areas, all with characteristic figures. Surreptitious traffickers do particularly well.
In his genre pictures, too, the figures do not express affectation anywhere, and the plot clearly emerges, as he did not seek for effect in his pictures. The coloring is always fresh and brilliant, for Callcott loved serenity; hence the magic that he knew how to place in his sky and in the silver tone of his waters.
