Calonema is a genus of slime molds from the order of the Trichiida . It includes four types.

The stalked or sessile fruiting bodies are sporocarps and are usually found in loose to dense groups. The capillitium consists of individual threads that have grown together to form an incomplete network, which are weakly sculpted; they are networked, irregularly ring-shaped or spiral. Their ends are often fused at the base and the peridium .

The peridium is thin, branched and veined and tears open unevenly during the ripening time to release the spores. The spores are yellow.

Finds are known from Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands), Asia (Japan, India) and North America (USA).

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described by Andrew Price Morgan in 1893 , the type species is Calonema aureum . The genus includes four species:
