Camille Keaton

Camille Keaton (born July 20, 1947 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas ) is an American actress . She gained notoriety through her appearances in films of the Giallo genre and her leading role as Jennifer Hills in the exploitation film I spit on your grave .

Life

Camille Keaton grew up in Chicot County before her family moved to Atlanta in 1960 . In 1969 she was involved in a serious car accident and left her face with scars. After graduating from high school, Keaton worked as a flight attendant at Amtrak before moving to Italy in 1971. There she was accepted by a talent agency and received her first appearances in commercials.

In 1972 Camille Keaton got her first film role as Solange in Massimo Dallamanos The Secret of the Green Pin with Joachim Fuchsberger in the lead role, one of the Edgar Wallace films . Her appearance in the film received positive reviews and in the same year she played her first leading role in the Italian-Spanish horror film Estratto dagli archivi segreti della polizia di una capitale europea . In November 1972, the actress was seen as pin-up in the Playmen , the Italian version of the playboy , followed by the front cover as a cover girl in September 1974.

In 1975 Keaton moved to New York and took a three year hiatus from acting. In 1978 she played her best-known role as Jennifer Hills , a rape victim avenging herself on her tormentors in the controversial exploitation film I spit on your grave , which was indexed in Germany for its depiction of violence. During her stay in New York, Keaton had read in a magazine for the planned casting of the film and returned to Italy to audition as an actress. Despite reservations about the content, she accepted the role. For her performance, Keaton received the Medalla Sitges en Plata de Ley for best actress at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya . After the film was released, she moved to Los Angeles with her then-husband .

In the following years Keaton worked in other films, most of which can be assigned to the horror or exploitation genre. So she took on a small supporting role in Rob Zombies The Lords of Salem in 2012 . In 2015 she returned to her role as Jennifer Hills while filming I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu . The film was originally supposed to be released in 2016, but the release date has been postponed several times since then. The release finally took place in April 2019. Keaton is still active as an actress to this day.

From 1979 until their divorce in 1982, Camille Keaton was married to Spit On Your Grave director Meir Zarchi . A second marriage in 1993 with the film producer Sidney Luft lasted until his death in 2005. Both marriages remained childless.
