Theodor Schwegler

Father Theodor Schwegler OSB (born February 11, 1887 in Willisau Land , † September 27, 1967 in Einsiedeln Abbey in Einsiedeln ) was a Roman Catholic religious and university professor .

Life

Theodor Schwegler was born as Johann Bernhard Schwegler and was the son of the farmer Johann Schwegler and his wife Marie Anna, nee. Bühlmann; he later took the religious name Theodor .

He attended primary school in Willisau Land from 1894 to 1901 and received his confirmation on May 24, 1898 . From 1901 to 1903 he attended the middle school in Beromünster and from 1903 to 1907 the Stiftsschule, a grammar school with an attached boarding school , in Einsiedeln.

In 1907 he entered the Benedictine monastery in Einsiedeln as a novice and made simple profession the following year on September 8, 1908 .

From 1908 to 1912 he studied theology at the monastery of Einsiedeln and put on 10 September 1911 his solemn profession, which he on 17 September Subdeacon and on September 21, 1911 Deacon was; he was ordained a priest on this day and held his primacy on October 6th that same year .

From 1912 to 1913 he worked as a substitute teacher of the Italian language and in pastoral care.

He studied mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Freiburg from October 1913 to March 1918 and received his doctorate in natural sciences on March 20, 1918 . He then worked as a teacher of natural history from 1918 to 1920 , from 1920 to 1943 as a teacher of mathematics and from 1920 to 1962 as a teacher of accounting, descriptive geometry and higher mathematics (for the candidates for the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ) at Einsiedeln grammar school .

From 1939 to 1962 he taught the Hebrew language and from 1940 to 1964 church history , biblical introduction and exegesis at the theological college of Einsiedeln Abbey .

From October 1920 to August 1923 he was Sunday vicar for Schindellegi , from 1925 to 1931 catechist and Sunday vicar in Bennau and from 1938 to 1940 Sunday vicar in Saturdayern .

In 1926 he became accountant of the central treasury of Einsiedeln Abbey, and in 1930 he began his observations as a weather observer at the federal meteorological station in Einsiedeln.

He was also the accountant of the Swiss development aid organization Missions-Verkehrs-Arbeitsgemeinschaft ( miva ), which was founded in 1927 by Father Paul Schulte . He was also chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Swiss Catholic Bible movement was on the board of the Swiss Catholic abstainer League , the board of the Swiss abstainers Secretariat and chairman of abstinentischen cantonal association.

Stiftskapitular Theodor Schwegler was the author of numerous publications on biblical studies and church history and in 1947 co-editor of the Catholic Family Bible ; from 1941 to 1949 he was editor of Rundschau and Führer as well as organ of the Student League and its supplement waiting .
