Camille Montagne

Jean Pierre François Camille Montagne (born February 15, 1784 in Vaudoy-en-Brie , † December 5, 1866 in Paris ) was a French military doctor and biologist ( bryology and mycology ). His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Mont. "

At the age of 14 he joined the Navy and accompanied Napoleon's Egyptian expedition in 1798 . He returned in 1802, studied medicine, and two years later became a military surgeon. In 1832 he retired and devoted himself to studying cryptogams . In 1835 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina and in 1853 of the Académie des Sciences in Paris . From 1858 he was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg .
