Karl Johann August Müller ( Müller Hallensis ) (born December 16, 1818 in Allstedt , † February 9, 1899 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German bryologist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is “ Müll.Hal. "

Live and act

Müller came from a humble background. His father was a master bagger. He completed a pharmacist teaching and worked for several years as a pharmacist . In 1842 Müller worked in Ernst Hampe's pharmacy and became enthusiastic about bryology. In 1843 he moved to Halle (Saale) , where he studied botany with Diederich Franz Leonhard von Schlechtendal . In 1847 he began to publish his synopsis Muscorum Frondosorum omnium hucusque cognitorum . He rejected Charles Darwin's ideas . In 1880 he became a member of the Leopoldina . In addition to his studies, Müller wrote for the Botanische Zeitung.

From 1852 to 1896, Müller was editor-in-chief and for many years, together with Otto Eduard Vincenz Ule, editor of the weekly magazine Die Natur , one of the first and long-leading popular science bodies in Germany. He was also one of the co-founders of the Natural Science Association for Saxony and Thuringia.

He was married twice. His first wife was Henriette Hauff . In 1864 he married Hedwig Mathilde Sorge . He had a son from his first marriage and two daughters from his second marriage.
