Camillo Siciliano di Rende
Camillo Siciliano di Rende (born June 8, 1847 in Naples , † May 16, 1897 in the Montecassino monastery ) was an Italian cardinal and archbishop of Benevento .
Life
Di Rende was educated in the seminary of Orléans in France , finished his studies at the Collegio Capranica in Rome and was ordained a priest on June 3, 1871 in Naples . He then administered clerical offices in Westminster and returned seven months later to Naples to take care of the English and French-speaking congregations there.
On December 28, 1877 he was by Pope Pius IX. appointed Bishop of Tricarico . He was ordained bishop on January 1, 1878, by Cardinal Flavio Chigi . On August 20 of the same year he was given by Pope Leo XIII. bestowed the title of Papal Assistant to the Throne . In May 1879, Leo XIII appointed di Rende as Archbishop of Benevento and in 1882 as Apostolic Nuncio in Paris. Di Rende managed to establish ties with the French nobility. In the consistory of March 14, 1887 Leo XIII raised him. cardinal and gave him the titular church of San Sisto Vecchio . In 1888 Cardinal Siciliano became Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Lucera.
Camillo Siciliano di Rende died unexpectedly of pneumonia in 1897 . He was buried in the church of Santa Clementina in the old cemetery of Benevento .
