Campay , Scottish Gaelic Campaigh , is a Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides . It is located in the council area of the same name and was historically part of the traditional county of Ross-shire or the administrative county of Ross and Cromarty .
geography
Campay is located in Loch Roag Bay off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis . It is located about 500 meters north of Kealasay and one kilometer northeast of Little Bernera . The closest settlement on Lewis is Carloway, 6.5 kilometers east .
The rock island has a maximum length of 470 meters and a width of 210 meters. Its highest point rises 38 meters above sea level. On the northeast side, a cave created by natural erosion leads under the island.
history
Above a cliff on the east coast are the remains of a possibly prehistoric dwelling. A collapsed cairn on a hill on the west side is more recent.
