Vernaccia di San Gimignano is an autochthonous white wine variety in Italy . It is grown in the Tuscan metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Pistoia , Perugia , Terni , Viterbo , Grosseto and Pisa and (under the name Drupeccio ) in the Umbria region.
The grape variety must be at least 85% in the wine of the same name . In 2017 there were around 650 hectares of planted vineyards.
The late ripening variety is quite vigorous and gives good yields. The yellow-greenish wine is used almost exclusively as a blending partner , often with the Trebbiano , for example in Orvieto or Carmignano . Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). See also the article Viticulture in Italy and the list of grape varieties .
