Caplutta Nossa Dunna della Neiv

The Caplutta Nossa Dunna della Naiv ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Sursilvan for "Sta. Maria zum Schnee chapel") is a chapel above the village of Schlans in the Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It stands above the village center on an elongated rock ridge next to the ruins of the Schlans tower .

Chapel and tower

history

The chapel was built in 1683; the foundation stone was laid by Father Josephus Pontenico, Capuchin from the province of Brescia . The consecration took place on June 25, 1683 in honor of the Holy Trinity and Mary of the Snow . Renovations took place from 1996 to 1998.

description

The nave of the north-east facing chapel is covered with a wooden barrel vault, the choir, closed on three sides, with a vault. The walls are structured with pilasters and arched blind arches, above which a cornice runs.

The wooden high altar is flanked by two columns and dates from around 1680. To the left and right are statues of Francis of Assisi and Anthony of Padua , the altar panel shows Mary between St. Ignatius and Laurentius of Brindisi . In the far corner there is a statue of St. Bernadette . The bells were cast by Johannes Baptist Ernas from Lindau in 1719.
