Caracal is the second studio album by the English DJ duo Disclosure . It was released by PMR and Iceland on September 25, 2015 . Seven official singles have been released from the album: Holding On with Gregory Porter , Omen with Sam Smith , Jaded , Bang That , Willing and Able with Kwabs , Hourglass with Lion Babe and Magnets with Lorde .
Emergence
The songs on the album were written by Howard and Guy Lawrence, who form the Disclosure duo, along with their regular co-writer Jimmy Napes (as James Napier). Some of the guest singers like Sam Smith and Lorde were also involved in the songwriting. The collaboration on Caracal took place in 2015 in Disclosure's newly founded studio in the St. John's Wood district of London . The mastering was done by Tom Coyne.
The title of the album refers to the big cat Karakal , which is also shown on the cover. Howard and Guy Lawrence said they chose it because they took a liking to the wildlife, looks and abilities during their tour last year. This would also fit well with the “Wild Life” brand, under which Disclosure hosts events such as the “Wild Life Festival”.

reception
Metacritic gave the album an average rating of 73 (best value on a scale of 0 to 100), which is positive. For example, Allmusic awarded four out of five stars and critic Andy Kellman does not think the tracks are surprising, but the good structure is comparable to those of Disclosure's successful debut album. Annett Scheffel from the Musikexpress, on the other hand, thinks that the duo cannot build on the success with their second album, Caracal , that it is “unimaginative and cumbersome”. Alexis Waltz, critic of Spex magazine , misses the "edgy, exuberant grooves" of older tracks, the new album is "much calmer and housier". He also criticizes the fact that Disclosure “cannot create an adequate counterforce” to the voices of the guest singers, so the quieter songs are the better.
