South Gate Ridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with a population of 5,688 (as of 2010).

South Gate Ridge is about 5 km southeast of Sarasota and about 90 km south of Tampa . The CDP is affected by Florida State Road 72 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5688 inhabitants were distributed over 2657 households. The population density was 1264 inhabitants / km². 88.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 2.4% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 4.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 11.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.3% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 30.0% of all households. 60.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.80.

21.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 48.9% of the population were male and 51.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 56,281, with 9.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 94.09% of the population, 5.42% spoke Spanish and Polish 0.49% .
