South Venice is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with a population of 13,949 (as of 2010).

South Venice borders the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway to the west, the city of Venice to the north and is around 30 km south of Sarasota and around 110 km south of Tampa . The CDP is traversed by Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ) and Florida State Road 776 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,949 inhabitants were distributed over 7,834 households. The population density was 894.2 inh / km². 95.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.6% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 3.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 39.8% of all households lived in 21.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 62.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.69.

18.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 33.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 50 years. 48.4% of the population were male and 51.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 43,642, with 10.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 95.11% of the population, 1.47% spoke Spanish and 3.42% had another mother tongue.
