Fruitville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with a population of 13,224 (as of 2010).

geography

Fruitville borders the city of Sarasota to the west and is around 80 km south of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by Interstate 75 and Florida State Road 780 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,224 inhabitants were distributed over 6,018 households. The population density was 751.4 inh / km². 91.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 2.5% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.9% as Asian Americans . 2.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.6% to several ethnic groups. 8.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.6% of all households and persons aged at least 65 years in 28.3% of all households. 62.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.88 people.

21.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 53,855, with 10.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 92.44% of the population, 4.45% spoke Spanish and 3.11% had another mother tongue.
