Englewood is a census-designated place (CDP) in the counties Charlotte and Sarasota in the US state Florida with 14,863 inhabitants (status: 2010).

geography

Englewood is around 33 km west of Punta Gorda on Lemon Bay , a lagoon on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico . The CDP, which is crossed by 776 Florida State Road , runs the border between Sarasota Counties and Charlotte. Englewood is located approximately 120 km south of Tampa .

Religions

Englewood currently has 31 different churches from 17 different denominations. Among the churches belonging to a denomination, the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with 4 churches. There are 4 churches that do not belong to any denomination (status: 2004).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 14,863 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 10,942 households. The population density was 582.9 inh / km². 97.1% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 0.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 2.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 60.6% of all households lived in 9.8% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 58.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.89 people and the average family size was 2.34 people.

9.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 8.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 57.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 64 years. 47.6% of the population were male and 52.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 38,433, with 12.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 94.72% of the population, 2.29% spoke Spanish and 2.99% spoke another language.
