Gulf Gate Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with 10,911 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Gulf Gate Estates is located approximately 5 km southeast of Sarasota and approximately 90 km south of Tampa . The CDP is affected or crossed by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ) and Florida State Road 72 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,911 inhabitants were distributed over 7,002 households. The population density was 1558.7 inh / km². 93.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 2.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 7.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 44.3% of all households lived in 16.5% of all households with persons aged 65 or over. 45.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 16.5 people and the average family size was 44.3 people.

15.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 38.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 52 years. 45.6% of the population were male and 54.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 40,351, with 15.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 91.12% of the population, 3.84% spoke Spanish and 5.04% had another mother tongue.
