North Sarasota is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with 6982 inhabitants (as of 2010).

North Sarasota borders directly on the city of Sarasota in the south and is around 80 km south of Tampa . The CDP is affected by US Highway 301 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,982 inhabitants were distributed over 3,633 households. The population density was 734.9 inh / km². 59.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 30.7% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.4% as Asian Americans . 5.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 18.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 38.7% of all households lived in 27.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.48 people and the average family size was 3.10 people.

23.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 45 years. 48.4% of the population were male and 51.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 32,212, with 28.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 89.11% of the population, 10.04% spoke Spanish and 0.86% spoke French .
