Desoto Lakes is about 5 km northeast of Sarasota and about 80 km south of Tampa .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 3,646 inhabitants were distributed over 1,674 households. The population density was 1139.4 inh / km². 84.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 7.1% as African-Americans , 0.2% as Indians and 1.6% as Asian Americans . 4.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 16.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
