Vamo is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with 4727 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Vamo borders the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway to the west and is about 10 km south of Sarasota and about 90 km south of Tampa . The CDP is traversed by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4727 inhabitants were distributed among 3346 households. The population density was 1243.9 inh / km². 93.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.4% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.6% to several ethnic groups. 7.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 51.1% of all households lived in 14.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 49.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.83 people and the average family size was 2.44 people.

13.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 46.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 57 years. 45.1% of the population were male and 54.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 49,129, with 12.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.46% of the population, 3.13% spoke Spanish and 1.41% had another mother tongue.
