Nokomis is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County in the US state of Florida with 3,167 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Nokomis borders the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway to the west, the city of Venice to the south, and is around 20 km south of Sarasota and around 100 km south of Tampa . The CDP is traversed by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 3167 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 1693 households. The population density was 754 inhabitants / km². 95.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.9% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 0.9% reported belonging to another ethnic group and 0.9% to several ethnic groups. 4.4% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 18.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 35.7% of all households. 57.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.10 people and the average family size was 2.59 people.

16.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 32.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 51 years. 49.6% of the population were male and 50.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 43,385, with 17.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.
