Manasota Key is a census-designated place (CDP) in Charlotte County in the US state of Florida with 1229 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Manasota Key is located on an island between Lemon Bay and the Gulf of Mexico on the Florida coast. The CDP is about 40 km west of Punta Gorda and about 130 km south of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1229 inhabitants at the time were distributed over 2083 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 438.9 inh / km². 98.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.1% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 0.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.8% to several ethnic groups. 1.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 2.3% of all households and people aged 65 and over lived in 70.5% of all households. 57.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.68 people and the average family size was 2.09 people.

2.1% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 3.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 19.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 75.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 69 years. 47.8% of the population were male and 52.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 63,000, with 2.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.
