Rotonda is a census-designated place (CDP) in Charlotte County in the US state of Florida with 8,759 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Rotonda is located in southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico and around 30 km west of Punta Gorda and around 140 km south of Tampa . The city center and the ring around it are circular. Seen from the air, the place looks like a huge wheel with spokes .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 8759 inhabitants were distributed among 6581 households. The population density was 307.3 inh / km². 97.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.0% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 0.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.5% to several ethnic groups. 1.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 11.9% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 60.0% of all households. 66.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.98 people and the average family size was 2.38 people.

11.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 8.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 57.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 63 years. 47.8% of the population were male and 52.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 48,487, with 7.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 92.84% of the population, 3.18% spoke Spanish and 3.98% had another mother tongue.
