Cleveland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Charlotte County in the US state of Florida with 2990 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Cleveland is located on the south bank of the Peace River and about 2 km east of Punta Gorda . The CDP is affected by Interstate 75 and crossed by US Highway 17 and Florida State Road 35 on a shared route. It is located about 150 km south of Tampa .

history

In 1886 the Florida Southern Railway built a railway line from Lakeland via Arcadia and Cleveland to Punta Gorda , which was integrated into the Plant System in 1892 . Today the route from Arcadia via Punta Gorda to Naples is operated by the Seminole Gulf Railway .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 2990 inhabitants were distributed over 1880 households. The population density was 210.6 inh / km². 95.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.1% as African American , 0.7% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 2.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 49.2% of all households lived in 17.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.13 people and the average family size was 2.59 people.

16.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 15.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 41.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 55 years. 49.9% of the population were male and 50.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 37,083, with 18.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.57% of the population, 0.81% spoke Spanish and 0.62% spoke German .
