The Federal Association of Caritas Disability Aid and Psychiatry eV (CBP) is a professional association of the German Caritas Association (DCV) and thus part of Caritas in Germany. The association employs around 94,000 people in 1,100 facilities.

history

The association came into being on November 21, 2001 in Freiburg through the merger to re-establish three associations from different areas of the disabled . The predecessor associations were:

  • the federal working group cath. Facilities for Sensory Disabled People eV (BAGSB), founded in 1998, emerged from the Federal Working Group cath. Facility for the Sensory Disabled, established in 1988; with 54 member institutions,
  • the association cath. Facilities and services for physically handicapped people eV (VKEDKM), founded in 1921; with 67 member institutions,
  • and the association cath. Facilities and services for learning and mentally disabled people eV (VKELG), founded in 1905; with 511 member institutions.

In May 2006 the fourth and final association, the Federal Psychiatry Association in Caritas eV (PiC), which was founded for mentally ill people, was added.

The merger was carried out with the aim of forming an association with a large number of members, well organized and unified, which is more perceived in the public and in politics and can achieve more for its target groups than several small associations, even if they pursue the same goal. The merger also generated synergies that simplify administration and thus free up human resources for more content-related tasks.

Members

The members of the CBP are Catholic institutions and services and provide a wide range of services for people with disabilities and mental illness . The offers include early intervention centers , kindergartens , schools , vocational training centers and vocational training centers , workshops for disabled people ( WfbM ), residential homes, open services, online counseling , clinics and specialist hospitals as well as nursing schools .

tasks and goals

In its statutes, the goals and tasks of the CBP are described in the following way: The association has the goal of advising and supporting its members, to accompany people with disabilities and mental illness in the way they shape their lives, their promotion , rehabilitation and integration into society to stimulate and develop. This goal is to be achieved through the professional support of the members, the lobbying work for the sponsors, services and institutions as social enterprises in Church and Caritas, state and society, technical participation in all social and socio-political discussions.

The CBP thus supports its members in their work

Lobbying

The CBP sensitizes members, politicians and the general public to current questions, problems and developments in the field of disability assistance and psychiatry . He explains, informs, and formulates alternatives . He calls for and supports solutions that are based on self-determination and the individual's need for help. It also calls for sustainable framework conditions for its providers, facilities and services so that reliable services are available to the people who need them. With his positions he seeks influence on political decisions that have an impact on people with disabilities and on service-providing social enterprises . For this work he cooperates with the large partner associations of disabled people in Germany.

Cooperations in assistance for the disabled

For 25 years, the large professional associations for the disabled in Germany have been meeting regularly to discuss socio-political problems, the paradigm shift and publicity at the round table .

These five professional associations now represent more than 90% of all outpatient and inpatient offers for disabled people in Germany. They agree on activities to represent the interests of disabled people among themselves, especially when important legislative projects are pending that have a direct impact on the living conditions of disabled people.
